On-Demand Webcast on northeastern Hurricane Risks.

Note: This webcast orginally aired on BusinessInsurance.com on June 2nd, 2010. With Hurricane Irene bearing down on the Eastern Seaboard, we invite you to listen to the recorded version. The remarks from last year are just are relevant today.

Although hurricanes don’t make landfall in the Northeastern United States as frequently as they do in the Southeast and Gulf Coast, they are potentially very costly. In fact, catastrophe modeler AIR Worldwide estimates that if the "Long Island Express" hurricane of 1938 happened today, it would cause $33 billion in insured damage.

This webinar, originally presented June 2010, will help risk managers and loss control professionals prepare for this threat by exploring:

  • The seriousness of the hurricane exposure in the Northeast.
  • Whether cat models and property rates adequately reflect the exposure.
  • What unique windstorm exposures exist in the Northeast, compared with elsewhere in the country.
  • Whether the relative infrequency of Northeastern hurricanes has bred a sense of complacency.
  • The nuts and bolts of preparing for a hurricane in the Northeast and elsewhere.
  • What type of information risk managers should have gathered before a storm strikes so loss adjusters can speed the handling of your claim.

Join Richard Lafayette, VP and managing director of Crawford & Co.’s Global Technical Services Division, Daren Perry, vice president of REI Engineers, and Al Tobin, managing director and leader of Aon Risk Service's property practice, for a look at the risk management opportunities and challenges for Northeastern hurricanes. The webcast is moderated by Business Insurance Senior Editor Mark A. Hofmann.
